About Singalila National Park

Deep within the mist-shrouded rhododendron forests of the Singalila Ridge, a crimson legend moves in silence.

Join us on an exclusive expedition to Singalila National Park, one of the few places on Earth where the elusive Red Panda roams wild. Straddling the border of India and Nepal, this high-altitude sanctuary (7,000–12,000 ft) offers more than just a wildlife tour—it is a journey into the clouds. Here, amidst ancient bamboo groves and moss-laden oaks, we track the "Fire Cat" and witness a spectacular avian display against the backdrop of the world's highest peaks, including the majestic Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest.

This expedition is crafted for wildlife photographers, birders, and nature enthusiasts who are willing to trade luxury for the raw beauty of the wilderness.

Fitness Level: Moderate. While we use vehicles for major transfers, tracking pandas often involves walking off-road on steep, uneven terrain at high altitudes.

Altitude: We will be operating between 2,800m and 3,636m. Proper acclimatization is built into our itinerary.

Wildlife & Photography Opportunities

The signature showstopper: Red Panda in its habitat.

The Pheasants: Keep your lenses ready for the vibrant Blood Pheasant, the dazzling Satyr Tragopan.

The Jewels: Spot the electric-green Fire-tailed Myzornis, the Golden-breasted Fulvetta, and the restless Rufous-vented Tit.

The Raptors: Watch for the Himalayan Griffon and Lammergeier soaring on thermal currents above the ridge.

Climate Information

Seasonal Climate Overview
Spring: April – May (The Season of Blooms)
Atmosphere: The ridge comes alive with color. This is the peak flowering season, where the forests are ablaze with pink, red, and white rhododendrons and magnolias.

Temperature: Pleasant days ranging from 8°C to 15°C, dropping to 0°C to 5°C at night.

Visibility: Mornings are generally clear, offering good mountain views, though afternoons often see mist rolling in, creating a moody, photogenic atmosphere for forest photography.

Precipitation: Occasional pre-monsoon showers or hailstorms are possible, usually in the late afternoon.

Autumn: October – November (The Season of Views)
Atmosphere: The air is crisp, dry, and incredibly transparent. This is the premier season for witnessing the "Sleeping Buddha" and the Everest range in high definition.

Temperature: Colder than spring. Days are crisp at 5°C to 12°C, while nights can drop significantly, ranging from -2°C to 5°C.

Visibility: Excellent. This period offers the highest probability of crystal-clear blue skies and panoramic sunrise views from Sandakphu.

Precipitation: Rainfall is rare, ensuring dry trails and stable tracking conditions.

Winter: December – February (The Season of Snow & Solitude)
Atmosphere: A wonderland for the adventurous. The ridge is often draped in snow, creating a stark, high-contrast landscape perfect for dramatic photography. The Red Panda’s coat is at its thickest and most vibrant during this time.

Temperature: Intense cold. Daytime highs hover around 2°C to 8°C, while nights regularly drop well below freezing, reaching -5°C to -10°C.

Visibility: Generally clear mornings with piercing blue skies. However, occasional snowfall or heavy fog can obscure views abruptly.

Tracking Advantage: With deciduous trees shedding their leaves, visibility within the forest canopy improves, making it slightly easier to spot the Red Panda and elusive birds like the Satyr Tragopan.

Note: Roads to Sandakphu may occasionally be blocked by heavy snow, requiring flexible logistics.
