1. Great Hornbill
The Great Hornbill is Meghalaya's state bird and one of the most impressive species to photograph. These magnificent birds can be found in the forests around Cherrapunji and Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary.

2. Oriental Pied Hornbill
Smaller than the Great Hornbill but equally photogenic, these birds are common in forested areas and can be spotted near fruiting trees.
3. Sultan Tit
This striking yellow and black bird is a delight to photograph. Look for them in mixed feeding flocks in pine forests.
4. Fire-tailed Sunbird
One of the most beautiful sunbirds, found in higher altitudes. Males display brilliant metallic colors in good light.
5. Rufous-necked Hornbill
A critically endangered species, this hornbill can be spotted in the Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary with patience and luck.
6. Mrs. Hume's Pheasant
This shy ground-dwelling bird requires patience and stealth to photograph. Found in dense undergrowth of hill forests.
7. Maroon Oriole
These stunning deep maroon birds are relatively easy to spot and photograph, especially during breeding season.
8. Blue-bearded Bee-eater
Colorful and acrobatic, these birds provide excellent action photography opportunities as they catch insects mid-flight.
9. Long-tailed Broadbill
One of the most sought-after birds for photographers, known for their spectacular nest-building displays.
10. Mountain Bamboo Partridge
A challenging subject that rewards persistent photographers with unique images. Found in bamboo thickets.
